Cockatiels make great companions, as they are both intelligent and social by nature. The name cockatiel has been derived from a Dutch word " Kakatielje" which means a little cockatoo. The scientific name that is given to these birds is " Nymphicus Hollandicus or " Goddess of Holland". These birds are very exotic to look at and come in colors of gray, yellow and white. Cockatiels are very playful by nature and will always hanker for your attention by mimicking you or by showing you tricks. They are also very affectionate creatures that love to be stroked and pet. Though a cockatiel can easily mimic sounds and whistle tunes yet its voice is not as clear as the larger parrots. A healthy cockatiel will last for at least 15 to 20 years
